An abstract portrait of Orion the Wolf — who I previously made a ref sheet for.

This piece carries a lot of emotional meaning to the client, so I wanted to make sure I got it right. I was given full creative freedom with the composition, so I tried several ideas before finally settling on a design that really captured me.

With these free-flowing geometric shapes, I wanted to create an illusion of movement, and express a sense of whimsical, primal joy, with the subject melting into harmony with the world around them. On the wolf’s face, there’s a contrasting balance of day and night, as well as pain and hope. The shape of the constellation Orion adorns him as if he’s part of the sky itself.
