Who I Am

I am Vivian Cox, also known by the alias f1urps.

I am a multi-media creator with a passion for many forms of creation and expression, especially music, visual art, poetry, graphic design, and game design.

I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, where I am currently based. I am a neurodivergent, bisexual trans woman.

I believe in honoring the inherent worth of every person, celebrating the complex beauty of our world, and living life to the fullest.

My Story

Since childhood, I’ve been a tinkerer with an overactive imagination who is more interested in computers, art, and philosophy than interacting with other humans. I never had a lot of friends, but the vivid worlds I built in my mind were always entertainment enough. It wasn’t until adulthood that I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD.

I came out as transgender in 2015 at the age of 16, unofficially changing my name from Sebastian to Vivian. When I turned 18, I started hormone treatment.

My gender transition has brought me such profound joy that I’ve never looked back. My family has always been fully supportive, for which I feel incredibly fortunate and grateful.

I’ve always loved music. My father introduced me to punk rock at a young age. In middle school band class, I played in the percussion section and learned music theory fundamentals. A substitute teacher showed us Animusic one time and it permanently rewired my brain. Soon after, I discovered EDM and became fascinated with the vast frontier of electronic sound.

I started creating my own music around 2012 using Music Studio, an iPhone app by Steinberg, and subsequently released dozens of my own tracks under the pseudonym Mach9. Brostep was a popular genre at the time, at which I made several regrettable attempts that I don’t recommend listening to.

In the years since, I’ve improved my skills, acquired better tools, and started releasing music as f1urps instead.

I also love computers and programming, especially when used for creative purposes such as game design, graphic design, and digital art. As I kid, I used to spend hours tinkering with Scratch to make small games, animations, and simulations. (In fact, my old Scratch account is still up!) Later, I taught myself real programming and started experimenting with Unity and other game engines, though I never made anything worth publishing.

From 2016 to 2020, I attended the University of Texas at Austin, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in computer science. It was during this time that I also became an avid Linux user.

Straight out of college, I launched my programming career at Juniper Networks, where I worked as a junior software engineer for two years. In 2022, I was hired at Google, where I worked for another two years until I got tired of it and quit in 2024 to pursue other passions instead.

These days, I am self-employed as a freelance artist.

I spend my time exploring the outdoors with my cat, Nico, playing Magic: The Gathering with my family, and letting my overactive imagination run wild in my home studio.
