Multiverse

July 2016

An idle summer doodle to express restlessness about my uncertain future and personal identity.

When I sat down to make this, I had literally no idea what I was about to draw. I just started moving my pen over the paper, and this is what happened.

Somewhere along the way, I had the idea that these bands of color could represent alternate universes or timelines, branching off from the present and diverging in different directions. The cat sits in the present, and the triangles point towards possible futures.

The cat is hard to explain. At the time, I just felt like drawing a cat in a sort of contemplative pose, looking out and pondering the multiverse of possibilities before it. In hindsight, I think the cat is me.

I made some minor alterations in 2025, which is the first image shown. The second image shows what it looked like before.
