F1urps’ Art Commissions: Details
Tier Comparison
Tier 1 is a small drawing that I make in an afternoon with minimal feedback or collaboration. It’s simple, cheap, and delivered quickly. It’s the ideal choice for concept art, character drawings, or small gifts. (See examples*)
Tier 2 is a medium-to-large, fully finished art piece, completed over dozens of working hours in a feedback-driven process, with the goal of providing the best possible result. It’s the ideal choice for display pieces, special occasions, extra-special gifts, or anything intended for commercial use. (See examples*)
Within tier 2, I provide two size options: Small (14" × N, up to 28") or Large (22" × N, up to 30"). Whether you intend to display the piece physically or digitally, a larger canvas will fit more detail and provide a higher-resolution image.
* Note: While viewing the gallery, be advised that some artworks were made for personal purposes only and may not represent the high standard of quality that I would deliver for commissions. When I have more commissioned works in my portfolio, I will add another section to display them as examples. Until then, please regard my gallery as a showcase of the full range of my skills, not necessarily their peak.
Process
Tier 1
Contact — You contact me expressing your interest in a tier 1 commission. If I’m available, I respond in a timely manner to schedule a consultation. If I’m too busy, I might put you on a waitlist to follow up later when I have availability.
Consultation — We have a brief conversation about the details of your commission over video call, voice call, or text (your choice). I give you an estimated timeline. If we’re ready to proceed, we sign a contract and you pay half of the commission cost up front.
Creation — I work on my own schedule, giving regular progress updates. You have minimal opportunity for input during this process. The status of your commission is publicly viewable in my queue.
Completion — I notify you when I’m done, and I show you the final product. You may request minimal alterations. You pay the second half of the commission cost.
Electronic Delivery — I create a high-quality digital scan of the artwork and send it to you.
Physical Delivery (optional) — For a flat shipping fee, I carefully package the original artwork and ship it to you. Pay extra to include a custom-sized frame. (If the artwork will be displayed physically, I strongly recommend framing it for long-term protection.)
Tier 2
Contact — You contact me expressing your interest in a tier 2 commission.
Creation — We collaborate in a multi-step process to create a product that meets your exact specifications. The status of your commission is publicly viewable in my queue.
Concept — I produce some concept sketches, and we discuss further to solidify the details of the design.
Draft — I create a scaled-down rough draft and present it to you. You may approve it or request changes. We iterate this process until we reach something you’re absolutely satisfied with.
Finalization — Working from the approved draft, I create the final completed version.

FAQ
-
I know this isn’t the answer you want, but — It depends. It depends on how busy my schedule is and how much time is required for your commission in particular, which can’t necessarily be predicted in advance. I avoid setting hard deadlines, because I never want to deliver a result that isn’t 100% finished.
Usually, a tier 1 commission will take about 1-2 weeks from consultation to delivery, and a tier 2 commission will take about 1-2 months.
Please do not message me to ask for an update! All it does is take time away from me when I could be working! When I have significant progress, delays, or other information to report, I promise I’ll let you know.
At any time, you can check your status in my queue here, which I keep up-to-date as I work.
In the contract that I sign with every client, there is a maximum time limit on how long the delivery can take. This time limit is much longer than is actually required under most circumstances, but it provides a safeguard to ensure you are legally entitled to a full refund if I fail to deliver your commission in a reasonable time.

Currently, I only take payments over PayPal.
If PayPal doesn’t work for you, let me know and I will look into setting up other options.

For tier 1, I’ll use whatever medium I’m most comfortable with that best fits the style you’re asking for. It will probably be in colored pencil, pen, and/or marker.
For tier 2, I’ll offer you the choice. I have some experience with most 2D art mediums, including pencil, ink, pastel, watercolor, charcoal, oil, acrylic, and collage; However, my most preferred mediums (with which I produce the best results) are pencil, ink, and watercolor.
If you have an allergy to any specific material, please let me know — However, I cannot guarantee zero cross-contamination in my workspace.
-
Sure, but the more characters I put in one drawing, the less detail will be devoted to each one.
Alternatively, for a higher resolution result, purchase multiple tier 1 commissions and I can combine them into one drawing with an equivalent amount of canvas space.

Unlike most commission artists, I do traditional art only, which generally takes more time & resources to produce than digital art.
I understand that my prices are unaffordable for some people, though I sincerely wish that wasn’t the case. I believe art is an essential human good which should be accessible to everyone. If I could give away my art for free, I would.
I try to set my prices as low as they reasonably can be. I have invested a lot in my art career, and I work hard to be able to do it full-time, but I certainly don’t do it for the money. After all, I quit my 6-figure salary job to become a full-time artist, which is twice the hours for less than half the income. Having the freedom to create art every day is all the reward I need.
-
My prices are not arbitrary — They are deliberately calculated, factoring in all the resources involved in creating my art and maintaining my business, to ensure that my work is adequately compensated without overcharging.
Each piece of art is unique and requires a different amount of time & resources. However, trying to account for everything precisely on a per-commission basis would be way too inconvenient for everyone. I’d rather provide a uniform price so clients know exactly how much they’ll pay and I don’t have to give myself headaches. Therefore, my prices are based on average/estimated costs instead of exact costs.
First, I track the average number of hours I spend working on each commission, including time spent actually making the art, plus time spent on business-related overhead like accounting, organization, and client communication. For these hours, I pay myself an hourly wage of $20/hr, which is considered a living wage for a single adult in Texas.
In addition to my time, there are other expenses involved in the production of my art that require compensation, such as studio maintenance, art materials, and various small upkeep costs associated with running a small business. All of these expenses are tracked, averaged out, and proportionately covered in each commission’s cost.
Finally, I include a small profit margin of about 10%, which is necessary to sustain and improve my business via things like professional art training/education, community outreach, marketing, and emergency savings.
-
Showing off my art is the most important part of how I attract clients and maintain my reputation as a skilled artist. If I’ve worked hard to make something but can’t show it to anyone, that’s a significant loss on my end.
That being said, if you wish to keep your commission private for any reason, I fully respect your wishes and promise to do so. I just ask to be compensated for it.
